TITLE : WordPerfect Secondary Merge File to Paradox Table
In order to transfer data from a WordPerfect Secondary Merge File
to Paradox, you will need to perform a mail merge with
WordPerfect. If you need a refresher course on WordPerfect mail
merge, the tutorial that comes with WordPerfect is recommended.
There are two mail merge lessons under the "Advanced Lessons"
section of the tutorial.
First, create a primary merge file that has all fields placed on
a single line with quotes around the fields, and commas between
them.
For example, a table with five fields would look like the
following:
"{Field}1~","{Field}2~","{Field}3~","{Field}4~","{Field}5~"
Remember, all fields must be on one line which might require
changing your page definition. If you need to do this, press
<Shift-F8>- Format, <2>-Page, <7>-Paper Size/Type, and change or
add a paper definition with a page width large enough to allow
all of your fields to be placed on one line during the merge.
Once you have created the primary merge file, you will need to
perform your merge: <Ctrl-F9>-Merge, then choose your primary
and secondary merge files.
WordPerfect inserts a hard page code between records; you will
need to remove this. The easiest way to accomplish this is with
Search and Replace: <Alt-F2>-Search and Replace, when it asks for
confirmation press <n> for no. Then it will display the forward
search prompt, press <Ctrl-Enter> then <F2>; when it asks for
what you want to replace it with, press <Enter>.
The next step is to save your file as an Ascii text file: <Ctrl-
F5>-Text In/Out, <1>-DOS Text, <1>-Save, and specify a file name.
This new file can now be directly imported into Paradox with
Tools | ExportImport | Import | Ascii | Delimited.
